Unlucky in Love

HOW THE SERIES EVOLVED:
Unlucky in Love started by me seeing a picture of Medusa's head online. For some reason I thought to myself it would be a lot of fun if she had a daughter that no one knew about - enter Calypso. As with all my books, I spent some time on babynames.com looking over name ideas. With the characters being from Greek mythology, I stuck with names that shared that origin. Calypso Tanis means hidden serpent, which made a lot of sense with my initial idea. The rest of the names didn't really have to mean anything, in my mind, so I just picked out ones I liked.

From there I had to decide what the story was really going to be about. It didn't take long for the five friends running a dating service idea to come around and that made it easy to figure out who the rest of the goddesses would be. The characters were a little less forthcoming about the prophecy that tied them all together. It took them until the second book to let me know there was a reason everything was happening the way it was. Having a reason didn't change the underlying message in the plot, though. From the very beginning, the books were meant to be about how love is a powerful weapon and how the world doesn't always see that.

Since the very beginning, I didn't really care about what other things said about my characters. I read general descriptions of the ones that have bios out there, but I really wanted to make my own world. Even though I tried to stay away from it, there were times when past history did come in handy and helped explain things I already had planned out for the story. Sometimes it was even scary how perfect it fit into the plot.

Saying too much more would give away more of the plot, so I'll leave you with the descriptions of each book for you to learn a little bit more about the characters.

Calypso Tanis gave up the fight before it even started. She was taught at a young age love was a foolish emotion that didn't deserve any consideration. After living all her life in the shadows, she finally decided to come out and for years things went well for her. Then Griff Godwin stepped into her office and all heck broke lose.

Griff was a man on a mission to help the woman his actions had forever altered. He wasn't expecting the emotions he felt when he met her in person, though. Something about Callie made him question his sanity in taking on the task of keeping her alive. He didn't have a choice in the matter, so they were going to have to learn to get along or kill each other trying.

Nani has no problem matching her clients with their perfect match, but as the daughter of Eros, known in some circles as Cupid, she never trusted someone with her own heart. Having fun is all she wants to do and if a guy shows any signs of commitment, they are shown the door. It's worked for her for eons and she doesn't foresee things changing in the near future.

Heracles is pretty much the male version of Nani. He doesn't necessarily enjoy his nights with the human women he picks up at bars, but they are better than nothing in his mind. He finds one night with Nani has a lot of lasting effects and learning to deal with them is something better done while living under the same roof. It could be the most disastrous decision he ever made or they might just find there is something to that four-letter word they've both avoided their whole lives.

Unlike the rest of the goddesses in the group, Rhea has known love for as long as she can remember. It's never been reciprocated to the level she'd like, but she still believes one day her dreams will come true. As babies start popping out of her closest friends, Rhea starts wishing those dreams would be answered sooner rather than later.

Thad has always known how Rhea feels about him and has had a hard time trying to figure out what exactly to do about it. Most would think he didn't care for the goddess, but that is anything but the truth. Still recovering from a rough end to a long relationship, Thad wants to move forward and start a family of his own. Before he has a chance to float the idea by Rhea, an unexpected visitor shows up in town and things start spinning out of control. An incubus, a jealous ex and an unplanned trip to the Underworld all get in the way of Thad's plans and by the time the dust settles both Thad's and Rhea's worlds have been altered.

Hermia loved helping people find that special someone to make their lives whole. She'd never had one in her life, or even someone that could remotely be considered one. A lot of bad had been caused over the years solely because of her and she tried to give back as much as she could to counteract her part of things, matching people up was only a small part of that. Years have passed since her biggest foe showed up at her doorstep, but he is back and this time she's decided to do anything to keep him from hurting more people.

Chrysaor had felt like the odd man in every circle from the day he was born. Having a winged horse as a brother was only the beginning of his differences from normal gods. He always heard that every person was unique in there own way, especially when you started talking about the things that came out of Olympus, but that didn't change the way he felt. Talking to Hermia proves to him that he isn't as odd as he thinks and just spending moments with her has him ready to defend her from anything knocking on her door.

Like most of the other goddesses Desma called friends, she escaped from Olympus early on in her life. Her reasoning was a little bit different because all she was trying to do was get away from a mother that had hated her since birth. Aphrodite didn't like having a younger version of herself running around and Desma has the scars to prove it. In the present day, Dessie is expected to fall for one of her mom's favorite pets and the idea makes her sick to her stomach.

Because of his looks, Adonis has always felt like people didn't really understand him for who he was. Most people thought he had no brain in his head and did all his thinking with the one in his pants. Having never been taken seriously in matters of love, he was excited to finally have a chance of finding someone that would understand him. Past loves have already tried to put a wrench in his plans and there are more to come. Somehow he's got to make Desma see he's more than what meets the eye and his heart has no problem beating for only her.
